
Kini Akaka specializes in scoring music for film, television, and multimedia. Using the
latest in digital technology, he creates imaginative scores and sound design that both
assist and enhance the vision of his clients.
He began his musical career at the age of five when a family friend gave him an upright
piano. Over the years he studied music, learning every instrument he could get his hands
on. He performed in various jazz, classical, and rock/pop groups.
Kini has worked on a variety of projects ranging from documentaries, short films,
animated shorts and multimedia. He composes in an impressive range of styles from
classical film scores to urban dance tracks, guitar-driven rock to percussive world music.
Kini credits his composing style and ability to Lyle 'Spud' Murphy's Equal Interval
System of Horizontal Composition. He studies the EIS method with David Blumberg.
Kini and his wife, Hélène, live in Los Angeles, California.
